Successful business people have many attributes in common: resourcefulness, motivation and drive, the ability to lead, self-reliance, and a strong sense of responsibility. Armed with those traits, Debbie Walker has pursued a career path also marked by inspiring vision, an instinct for opportunity, and unflagging perseverance.
As an entrepreneur, Walker has founded, and built, four highly profitable companies. As a management executive, she has achieved notable success in diverse industries: hospitality; event planning; association management; trade show; cruise and travel; luxury good import/export, and the film and television production and marketing industries. And in all of these undertakings, she has exhibited a superior instinct for identifying un-met niche areas and predicting emerging market trends.
A born marketer with an entrepreneur's energy and insight, Walker brings her experience, her contacts and her vision to Translucent. Outgoing, friendly and collaborative, Walker began her business career in the hospitality industry, progressing through the ranks from a reception desk to Management; experience she then parlayed into forming her own company to fill an industry need - marketing and sales for independent hotels throughout BC and Washington State.
As the company grew, so did requests for her to expand her business scope. She managed the Vancouver Campaign Headquarters of the then Prime Minister; planned, organized and orchestrated a reception for 800 people in a scant three weeks for a joint venture between the Province of BC and BC Natural Gas and followed this with public-access events in 16 communities within BC over the following six weeks, and organized an International Invitational Forum in Vancouver for Teleglobe that brought together Presidents and Prime Ministers from Australia, England, Japan, Canada, and the US to sign agreements to lay the first undersea telecommunications trunk to connect these countries.
These contracts led to Walker forming an Association Management, Event and Conference Planning Company, which grew over seven years into a thriving business arranging trade shows, mounting exhibitions and serving the needs of associations as diverse as the Canadian Association of Association Executives and the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating. She sold this company to explore a growing market niche in the cruise ship industry, but after two years foresaw that the Internet would adversely affect profitability, and turned her attention to the explosive growth in B.C.'s entertainment industry.
Under Walker, and business associate Brian Hammond, Post-Digital Works Ltd. grew into a major hi-definition digital production and equipment rental facility with a large staff, revenues in the millions and clients from around the world. After selling Post-Digital Works to a public company, Walker pursued her interest in another facet of Entertainment - publicity, talent marketing, and content production - forming Translucent Publicity.
In addition to her day (and night) job, her pet project that she has now taken to the demonstration level is THE OASIS. A multi-residential, SAFERhome Standards Society Certification home that will be built in communities around the world offering accessable and technologically advanced lifestyle choices for 55+ which includes personal inter-action within each community. We want to see an OASIS in a community near you!!! While using the demonstration home to show to politicians, corporations, associations and media, what the reality is, will ensure everyone is on-side to want an OASIS in their neighbourhood.
