Colin Foo - Bio

rollover

Colin Foo has pursued several highly successful careers on the road to his current passion as a character actor in film, television and commercials. A versatile, nuanced performer, Foo's work in the Indie short film JUST SMILE AND NOD and on ROBSON ARMS recently garnered two Leo Award nominations as Best Lead Male Performer and Best Male Guest Star In A Dramatic Series.

Colin Foo These are not the first nominations for Foo, who is enjoying a project-filled Spring. He will appear on the big screen in the feature film FETCHING CODY and, with a dramatic change in personae, as the evil "Shard" a menacing strip club and Porno theater owner, in the upcoming feature film LIVE FEED. Foo thrives on being busy so maintains a limited commercial career. He can currently be seen on the small screen as a pre-school teacher in a VanCity Credit Union commercial, and just completed work on a corporate promotional video for Sony.

Foo, who came into acting by accident, has an impressive list of credits that range from two different gender roles in Mina Shum's heartwarming drama LONG LIFE, HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY (Leo nomination), to a recurring role in ROBSON ARMS, and roles in THE TRUTH ABOUT MIRANDA, JUST SMILE AND NOD, SCOOBY DOO 2, A GREAT UPSTANDING MEMBER, and MXP: MOST EXTREME PRIMATE. Other credits include the series lead in the Comedy Network show THE UNPROFESSIONALS (Leo nomination), and principal roles in the feature films A MUPPET CHRISTMAS SHOW, A GUY THING, SAVING SILVERMAN, ANTITRUST and ROMEO MUST DIE. Other television credits include a recurring role in the still widely-syndicated series MADISON, and costarring roles in MYSTERIOUS WAYS, VOYAGE OF THE UNICORN and SEVEN DAYS.

Previously a top-ranked Realtor for over 18 years, Foo retired in 2002 to pursue acting full-time; a career that came about by accident when he drove a friend to an audition for a Yellow Pages commercial. Born and raised in Asia to a family that owned hotels and restaurants in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, Foo left home to study Graphic Design at St. Martin's in London and went on to achieve his Master's Degree at the prestigious Royal College of Art & Design. He abandoned his dynamic and promising Ad Agency career in the U.K. to come to Canada to look after his parents when they retired in 1975.

Foo has been dubbed a "Renaissance Man". He speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin, is a pianist, an award-winning baritone singer, and an internationally renowned artist. He is also an accomplished chef who began his love affair with cuisine in the kitchen of his parents' hotel, had his own cooking show on Rogers Cablevision, and still frequently appears as a guest chef. A born comedian who performs impersonations of Elvis, Liberace, Elton John and Donny Osmond amongst others, he utilizes those talents in the annual charity fund raising shows that he co-writes, directs and performs. Foo has, in fact, dedicated huge amounts of his time helping to raise thousands of dollars through his art, his acting, and his culinary skills. The list of the organizations that he supports runs into two pages and even his custom designed 5,000 square foot home, which overlooks the Fraser River, serves double duty as a space for charity shows, art exhibits, and fundraising watercolour painting classes and Chinese cooking demonstrations. Following his own credo: "the mark of a person's life is not what he has done for himself, but what he has done for others," Foo has, this year alone, raised 1/2 ton of clothing's and a monetary fund for the SOS Children's Village Tsunami Relief, in South East Asia. hidden
